Talk of Alabama Interview: The Book That Helps Me Heal

IN A HIGH PLACE: Black Motherhood and a Woman Rising poetry and essay collection is a book I wrote to help me heal as I walked through grief from a miscarriage, understanding Postpartum Anxiety, expressing my love for the Black community, and finding my way back to myself after motherhood.

A love letter to mothers and women. A reminder that we need each other. A companion as you unpack, journey, rediscover and heal.

A dedication to my boys for choosing me when I didn’t feel deserving and teaching me more when I thought I knew it all. And when I feel like I’m missing the mark, I come across things they share that tug on my heart as God whispers keep going.

It’s a book about the complexities of motherhood and how to find beauty in the low and high places on your journey.

Your story matters. Woven into the lives of women around you.

We need community 🖤

Yesterday I was on ABC 33/40 Talk of Alabama sharing my book #inahighplace🌳

I have spent the last decade sharing the same message: OUR STORIES ARE INTERCONNECTED.

If you’ve been here since Smeared Eyeliner and Faded Lipstick Poetry Collection then you already know.

Everything I have written has had this same message about the power of our stories, feeling less alone in our experiences, why we should share our stories, and how we aren’t walking through life in isolation. There is also the foundation of the importance of community threaded in everything I share.

Whether it’s a book, a blog, a radio interview, a tv interview, a lunch date, a phone call, a text message my stance will always be we need each other. I share my truth so you won’t feel unseen.

I see you, I love you, I believe in the strength of our bond as women and mothers to rise up and let the world know we are woven.

Mission: Leave nothing unused. Every drop of what God has given me. I’m leaving here empty.

To the moon.

God did it! I’m overflowing with gratitude.
